Junior Session 2018 began with students arriving, giant bubbles, and first-weekend auditions. Within two short weeks together, we had become friends, folk danced, square danced, walked to Weston, competed in Kin-Olympics, canoed on and swum in Echo Lake, gone on a creek walk, created cabin skits for inspection, enjoyed fabulous meals prepared by our superb kitchen, and played fantastic concerts together. All of the students, from those who’d never before played chamber music to players with more experience, discovered new and beautiful repertoire and the joys of working and performing together.
This year our 75 students, who came from Washington State to Washington DC and all points in between, joined forces for memorable performances of Rossini’s overture to The Barber of Seville, and von Weber’s overture to Oberon, led by Maestro Kenny Bean.
For the first time ever at Junior Session, students sang a Bach cantata, three movements from Christ lag in Todesbanden (With Grateful Hearts), in four-part harmony, and in German!
Co-Directors Marty Knieriem and Sandy Dennis announced a change to the admissions policy. Effective immediately, all students who will be rising fifth to ninth graders on all instruments are eligible for Junior Session. We hope to see many of this year’s students returning for another fabulous session in August 2019!
